The previous post having gone through installation and setup, we will now go through overlay and outlining operation.
First things to note,
- Make sure to launch SRS Before Il2
- Via the suggested setup, SRS will auto connect when connecting to the IL2 server
- On the 2D map, SRS will be in Spectator Side - you will be able to talk to and hear all other players in the Spectator Side.
"3 Greens"
- After joining the Il2 server and SRS has auto connected. From the Map briefing screen, look for "3 greens" along the bottom of the SRS client - "Server" , "VOIP, "IL-2"
Radio Overlay
- Radio overlay is your "Radio" - where you will be interacting with the comms system.
- Select "Toggle radio overlay" on the SRS client OR use an assigned keybind to pull it up.
(if the radio overlay keeps disappearing when going back to IL2, uncheck fullscreen in you IL2 option)
- The overlay can be resized/moved and the transparency adjusted as desired. it can also be minimized or toggled off - the comms system will still function.
The In the overlay you have 2 radios and intercom
- Intercom will be disregarded for now, it serves multicrew comms (between pilot and gunner stations for example)
- Radio 1 and Radio 2 each have 15 channels - although buttons for only 5 are displayed (use assigned keybinds to switch above chan 5 as required)
- It is important to note: Channels are the same across both radios, that is to say, Radio 1 Channel 1 is the same as Radio 2 Channel 1
The Radio display, shows, for each radio....
- Current Channel
- number of clients currently on that channel (not including yourself, "1" is 1 additional client, and 2 total. "2" is 2 additional clients, and 3 total ect)
- Lastly, the Players name will show when they are transmitting.
The dot on the Right of the Channel buttons shows active radio
- Green is active radio - Transmit and receive
- Yellow is stand by radio - receive only
- Select radio (PTT in our suggested setup) will switch active radios
- To change channels on a radio - first make it the active radio.
Lastly, on a Squadron/Staffel level - be sure to do an SRS check before loading into the cockpit. This can help pickup any mic/speaker issues and avoid the disruption of spawning into and out of aircraft repeatedly as such, recommend this be done from the Briefing map screen, via SRS Spectate comms - on any channel
what the process might look like:
1.) Startup SRS Client
2.) Startup Il2 Client
3.) Connect to the ACG server
4.) Check for autoconnect and "3-greens" on the SRS client
5.) Squadron/Staffel SRS check
6.) Spawn your aircraft
7.) Mute (but do not deafen) TS/Discord
8.) Use SRS for your duration ingame
