The gun topic

Post by Atreides » Sun May 11, 2014 1:32 am

I found these 2 fascinating videos that are very much worth watching. These people clearly and in detail explain the ins and outs of 2 famous WW2 guns.

Enjoy :)

There are still K98 used on Spitsbergen for polar bear protection. All the official institutions and travel agencies use modern norwegian hunting rifles, of course. But the poor students still circulate old K98's that the germans left there. It was said they have the most reliable bolts, especially in the harsh weather condition. I had one with me on some trips, that one was from 1942. I never fired it though. The only disadvantage was they weight compared to modern rifles. And that comes really into play when you already have field gear of about 20kg's.

I'm a gun collector and avid shooter. I'm also subscribed to both of those youtube channels. MAC and Hikock45 both put out some really good firearm info.

Really gets my goat that they don't make the new stg44 in 7.62x39, as 33k would be expensive to feed, but rather in 22lr! Idiocy.
Love the mauser though. I'm actually assembling parts for an m48a based scout rifle project.

This StG 44 replica looks so cheap compared to the real one which he gets into his hands in another video.

-That is reliable Thaine if it's durable even in the extreme conditions of the far north. I personally very much like the sound of that bolt.
-They indeed put out the info Spud, and they also don't rush with the explanation so you have time to process what they are saying :)
-I hope that project produces a nice end result Dots.
-Can you post that video Pitti?
