That was a very honourable double-edged burn. I'm not even mad.

I Didn’t know they were working on the D.520, that’s exciting.

No Asher I haven’t asked TF, it didn’t come up as a possibility in my mind haha.

What is the history of the French involvement during this period?
Catch me if you can...

Battle of Britain? None. Battle of France? Some. In Africa though, Vichy France used D.520s against the allies (I think)

To be serious... :) , french planes are very interesting, of course, but even in BOF they were underpowered and underarmed,
Some aces scored more than 10 victories (in 1 month not so bad) but they flew mainly Curtiss H75, which were also a poor fighter but better than french build Morane 406 and Bloch 152.
The best plane, the D 520 was equivalent to Spit 1 and 109 E but came too late and in few number during BOF, after the fall of the country she was never upgraded, in 1942 for Torch she was obsolete.

If i remember rightly i think i read somewhere that most D520's captured by the Germans were given to the Romanians and Bulgarians.

I purchased the book linked below. Quite interesting and currently only 99p on Kindle

True Jonesy! And to Italians as well, who used it in combat if I recall correctly to counter the 15th AF raids.

Germans used it in their OTU for advanced fighter training. As they used our Gnôme and Rhône engines to power their Hs-129.

Interesting to read that 3 D520’s made it to England landing at Boscombe Down. Wonder what happened to them?
