Can't comment on the crashes/ sync stuff, but it's not uncommon for something being bugged or broken after patches, that's not unique to BoS though. No doubt that there are issues and that some are off the 'hard nut to crack' variety has been acknowledged by the devs eg. game engine limitations.
Introducing the new theatre and new features like tanks is valid, imo. It's keeping the ball rolling, generating revenue; there are saleries and bills to be paid. That's the only way to optimise the game in the long run.
Those guys you mention are still active, at any rate I see the 2ndss tags often and Mr. X is regurlarly uplaoding vids. The cheat label is following him though, that fire not least being stoked by Clod players.
